Playing My Strengths
Still treading water and living week to week with no real prospects in site until 2019. It’s the great go slow that lasts until the end of January in Queensland at least. Nothing really happens in terms of employment until February. So I’m in a stop gap situation for the next 2 months at least.
That being said, having spoken to a few prominent people in the industry of healthcare and practice management, I’ve come to realise a couple of things.
Firstly, I have a gift that others don’t. I can see through systems, identify flaws and see how they can be improved. I can see how one change will effect every step of the process.
Secondly, I actually do know my shit when it comes to practice management and private medical practice and what it takes to run one efficiently.
Thirdly, I have a long vision. I can see how the industry will change and how it can start implementing new technologies – now – not in 5 years – but now to improve efficiencies and finances.
Fourthly, I got that thing I always wanted to do out of my system – and it didn’t work – so let’s return to what I know.
I heard from one of my gurus this week that if you have a gift and you don’t use it to your best advantage, you’re kind of an idiot. I have a couple of gifts that I’m really strong in. First is writing. It’s been with me my whole life and although I’ve written a couple of books, the work has still to be done so I’m doing it, slowly and surely.
The other thing is that I’m an excellent administrator and manager. I just am. This is not a sexy thing to be good at but it’s important – to me – and to many others who are trying to run private medical practices and failing because the day to day is not managed well and each day is just exhausting.
So I have started my own service and hopefully this will lead me home. If not, something, somewhere will find me that I have identified what it is I’m really, really good at and what I can offer in service to help someone else.
If not, then honestly, I think I just give up and will type at home forever for less than minimum wage and eat two minute noodles forever.
